Upper-West:

Upper-East

  • ??? - Anyone?

Midtown-West

  • Lansdowne Road 599 10th Avenue (at 43rd Street)  - It's a bar, they serve decent food, and there are tables with outlets in the back. The WiFi is free, no strings.

Midtown-East

  •  Juan Valdez Cafe 57th/Lex (you have to buy a cup of coffee before being able to access the free wifi, using your receipt)
  • NY Library DeWitt Wallace Room - Rm 108 (5th Ave at 42nd St - NO FOOD, BUT POSH SURROUNDINGS)
  • NY Library Main Reading Room - no Wifi, but one half the room has Ethernet connections.

  • The Wix Lounge (wixlounge.com) - free work space for creative professionals, including wi-fi and coffee

Downtown-West

  • Antique Cafe 26th St east of 6th Ave
  • Joe - multiple locations - 13th between 5th and university, waverly and 7th, and greene st. near prince.
  • sNice - 45 8th Ave at W4, yummy veggie food too.
  • Esperanto Cafe - 114 MacDougal Street (between W. 3rd St. & Bleecker). Cute little cafe that's open 24x7x365 and doesn't seem to mind you hanging out (book reading, essay writing, exam review) for long periods of time (at least late at night). A bit of a tight squeeze, though, plus bare-bones support for techies. (They have outlets, and they let you string a network cable for wired access, but for wireless it appears you have to use one of the random local hot spots)\
  • Ditch Plains - a bar/restaurant, has free wifi.
  • The Tea Spot - 127 MacDougal Street - great selection of teas, and snacks, not so many places to sit, though.
  • World Financial Center (Winter Garden) - Outlets are non-existent so you'll need good battery life, but the Downtown Alliance and Yushi Sushi have great free WIFI.
  • Whole Foods - 270 Greenwich St (off West St) [outlets]
  • NY Library BPC Branch - 175 North End Avenue - Free wifi, lots of seating area upstairs.  Quiet before late afternoon when the tikes come in for read/sing-alongs downstairs. [outlets]

Downtown-East

  • Joe - multiple locations - 13th between 5th and university (Note: no wifi as of Feb. 2009), waverly and 7th, and greene st. near prince.
  • Housing Works/126 Crosby
  • Yaffa Cafe (24 hours)
  • Dunkin Donuts 2nd Ave. @ 10th Street (24 hours; password required - ask at counter) [CLOSED]
  • DBA 1st Ave/3rd St (free bagels and cream cheese on Sundays. Password dbadbadba1)
  • Full City Coffee Roots & Vines (Grand St., Lower East Side) - Very nice little neighborhood place with coffee, a small food menu, beer, and free wifi.
  • Theeee Coffee Chamber (Bleecker betw. Lafayette & Bowery) (closed)
  • Think Coffee - Mercer St, below West 4th St. (Nice place, and open till midnight, but one annoyance: wifi now works for only 1 hour at a time (for a suggested donation of $1) after which you need to get another username/password - a bit of a pain.)
  • Alt.Coffee - 137 Ave A, between St. Marks and 9th Street. Note: They don't let you plug in your battery, so come fully charged. Alt.Coffee closed a few months back, and has since been resurrected as Hopscotch Cafe. Anyone know if they've got wifi?
  • 88 Orchard - 88 Orchard Street, at Broome Street. Great place to grab breakfast (try the herb omlette sandwich) and coffee (their iced coffee uses ice cubes made with coffee), and of course free wifi.
  • Sugar Cafe - 200 Allen St. (corner of Houston) Wifi, open 24 hours.
  • Lotus Club - 35 Clinton Street (between Rivington St & Stanton St). Longtime LES cafe and bar by night. Lots of space, good food, free wifi, and a decent amount of plugs. (longtime closed)
  • Gramstand - 214 Avenue A (betw. 13th and 14th) The new home of CooperBricolage (http://www.cooperbricolage.com). Free wi-fi, and open "until rather late".
  • Lunasa 126 1st Ave (Bet 7th & St Mark's). Great neighborhood bar. Has a patio & separate room in the back.  Food's quite good.  Ask bartenders for Wifi password.  Open late.
  • Organic Grill - 123 1st Ave (Bet 7th & St. Mark's)
  • Ost Cafe - 441 E 12th St at Avenue A
